The Rainmaker's Story

I came across this fabulous story and just had to share it...

A Chinese village has been besieged by drought and if rain does not come soon, the village will be in desperate straits, suffer famine and probably death. The local people have done all they know how to do. They finally decide to summon a great rainmaker from a distance.

When she arrived and saw the plight of the village, she said, “Build me a straw hut. Give me food and water for five days, and leave me alone.” This they quickly did. The rainmaker went into the straw hut and at the end of four days it rained just in time to save the crops.

The people of the village dragged the poor rainmaker blinking into the light and showered gifts on her, and poured out their affection for saving their village and saving their lives. Somebody took her aside and said, “How did you do it? How do you make it rain?” And she said, “Oh, but you must understand. I felt such discord inside myself, when I came into your village, that I spent that time getting things straight inside myself. I hadn’t ever gotten to the rainmaking part.”

I Love My Nonsense!! :D

It struck me that I put with a lot of nonsense from the world, so I'm going to give myself a break and put up with some more nonsense from myself!!! :)

And so the next time I do something silly, I'll just "Yay!" myself and skip along.... ;)

Eureka!

So, I've been pondering over what next for quite some time now. I even posted it here, on the blog. And so yesterday, it finally came to me that the values that have so far dictated my work-related (and maybe even other) decisions are: Learning, Freedom and Fun; not in  any order of preference.

And this has suddenly given me a great deal of clarity of what to do next... Watch this space for further details!! :)

The Fire of Friendship... :)

A man called Ali is in need of money and asks his boss to help him out. His boss sets him a challenge: if he can spend all night on the top of a mountain, he will receive a great reward; if he fails, he will have to work for free.

The story continues:When he left the shop, Ali noticed that an icy wind was blowing. He felt afraid and decided to ask his best friend, Aydi, if he thought he was mad to accept the wager. After considering the matter for a moment, Aydi answered: ‘Don’t worry, I’ll help you. Tomorrow night, when you’re sitting on top of the mountain, look straight ahead.‘I’ll be on the top of the mountain opposite, where I’ll keep a fire burning all night for you ‘Look at the fire and think of our friendship; and that will keep you warm. ‘You’ll make it through the night, and afterwards, I’ll ask you for something in return.’

Ali won the wager, got the money, and went to his friend’s house. ‘You said you wanted some sort of payment in return.’Aydi said, ‘Yes, but it isn’t money. Promise that if ever a cold wind blows through my life, you will light the fire of friendship for me.’
