Validation
And so, as part of the process of stepping up I have decided to write a blog post daily (!!!) and meditate for 10 minutes daily (!!!). So here I am writing this post.
Today’s life lesson is around the realisation that as an artist and unlike a regular corporate job, one is producing output which could be outstanding, every single time. This can lead one to expect applause ππ» every single time... a little tiring and annoying for the audience, don’t you think? And so seeking validation can be a recipe for disappointment and maybe even heartbreak.
I guess the remedy is to expect outstanding work from oneself and be ones own champion.... Sunday night musings. :)
Off to meditate now...
Looooong time.... no see!!
So much has happened since then, so much has changed and I'm sure there are parts that have remained the same.
So well, here I am, with the new intention of blogging everyday. Not my idea, following what Seth Godin says :).
Soo.... today was a day of many firsts. I finally got down to crafting my desired reality. Something I have been resisting since 2014 (at least). Not sure if I'm going to share it here :)
Anyway, the plan is to follow through this time.... let's see what happens. :)

A Creatives Quest...
“Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me.
All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But
there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not
that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your
taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is
why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they
quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years
of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to
have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still
in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can
do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will
finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will
close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took
longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take
awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.”

The Invitation~ by Oriah
It doesn’t interest me
what you do for a living.
I want to know
what you ache for
and if you dare to dream
of meeting your heart’s longing.
It doesn’t interest me
how old you are.
I want to know
if you will risk
looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.
It doesn’t interest me
what planets are
squaring your moon...
I want to know
if you have touched
the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened
by life’s betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.
I want to know
if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.
I want to know
if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you
to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us
to be careful
to be realistic
to remember the limitations
of being human.
It doesn’t interest me
if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear
the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.
I want to know
if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
“Yes.”
It doesn’t interest me
to know where you live
or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.
It doesn’t interest me
who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.
It doesn’t interest me
where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know
what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.
I want to know
if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like
the company you keep
in the empty moments.
